In the struggle to overcome addiction, the first step is realizing that there is a problem and that help is needed. This step is often the hardest, and it took Megan quite some time. After a troubled childhood full of abuse and neglect led her down the darker path of finding escape through drugs and alcohol, she had lost everything. She was living in another person’s home when, after waking up one morning and seeing drug paraphernalia next to her, she said to herself “I can’t do this anymore, I can’t.”
It takes tremendous strength and courage for a person to admit that they are no longer in control of their own lives and the choices that they make. After that difficult first step, we at Best Drug Rehabilitation do all we can to help our patients with each consecutive step they take on the path to recovery. Beginning with our medically supervised detox clinic, where we do everything in our power to try to lessen the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms, and ending with our extensive aftercare department, which assists our patients with everything from job placement to sober living arrangements, the staff at our substance abuse treatment center is there by the patient’s side, every step of the way.
When Megan got to BDR, she was overwhelmed by the positivity she found. From the moment she arrived, being greeted by a committee of patients and staff members, she was made to feel welcomed and accepted, and not viewed as an outcast or as someone who was different. The program here does not try to break our patients down, it builds them up. We help them to discover ways to make their lives better and to repair those relationships that have been damaged by their substance abuse. “They didn’t just tell me ‘This and this and this is wrong with you’”, Megan says of the program and counselors here. “They also helped me to realize that there is a way to fix it.”
The program at Best Drug Rehabilitation is not just about getting people off of drugs and away from alcohol, it is about showing our patients that there is a better way of life. We help them to discover and address the causes underlying their addiction, and show them how to change their lifestyle to one of freedom from the bonds of drug abuse and alcoholism. We give them the ability to find a happier and healthier today, with the promise of a brighter tomorrow.
Christina shares her review from her stay at Sovereign Health Group in the Mental Health Treatment Program. She was very nervous and apprehensive when she first arrived. Prior to her arrival, she was in complete denial of her problems. After her stay at Sovereign Health, everything was alleviated. She found the place to be magical and the staff very understanding, always there with you, even after you leave. The house managers made her feel very safe. During her treatment, even small little things were handled as though they were important. Her fear vanished when she acknowledged that she is not alone. Being in such a supportive environment allowed her feelings, which she carried her entire life, disappeared. She was initially uncomfortable to share her story, but her therapist’s support and patience led her to express herself better. She liked the trauma group, which gave her understanding and acceptance, and the stress management group. The coping skills she learned are helping her to settle in the real world. She appraises her therapist’s honesty and kind behavior. Her advice for others is “Don’t leave and don’t give up”.
