Best Drug Rehabilitation | Memorial Day 2016

24/7 Helpline 888-242-7730

If you or a loved one are struggling with addiction call (888) 820 5366

While we at Best Drug Rehabilitation keep the progress of our patients in the recovery process at the highest level of priority, we also understand that there is a tremendous amount of benefit to be found in taking a step away from the treatment program for a little while. We realize how stressful and difficult overcoming addiction can be at times. There is the physical stress of detox and withdrawal. Uncovering and addressing the underlying causes of addiction requires digging through all of the bad memories and past trauma that drugs and alcohol have served as an “escape” from. Then there is learning how to handle reemerging emotions, numbed by months or years of substance abuse, in a healthy and positive manner. All of this combined can be overwhelming for many of our patients. Taking some time to step away from the rehabilitation program and just enjoy the day is a welcome change from the difficult recovery process, and allows the patient to return to their treatment refreshed and ready to face any obstacles that may come up.

There are many opportunities for our patients to take a break from their treatment program throughout their stay at our recovery center. Sometimes it is a trip to a local horse stable or animal shelter. Other times it might be a charity fundraising walk or some other form of community outreach activity. Most recently, patients and staff took a trip to the public beach in Manistee, MI, where Best Drug Rehabilitation is located, to celebrate Memorial Day in honor of our fallen heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country’s freedom. The traditional way of Americans honoring these brave men and women is to enjoy the freedom that they fought and died for, and many choose to do so with cookouts and fellowship. Our outing was no different, as we fired up the grill for the traditional American cookout fare of burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, and all the regular things you would expect to find at a Memorial Day cookout.

Even though these outings are taking a break from focusing on the rehabilitation process, they are actually beneficial to that process as well. Not only do they allow the patient to return to their treatment process refreshed and ready to confront the real issues behind their addictive behaviors, especially when they are faced with an particularly difficult or painful part of their program, these outings also give the patients an opportunity to connect with each other on a more personal level. They are having fun with each other, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. They are discovering that they can actually have a good time and enjoy the company of others without using drugs or alcohol. “I think it’s a really good thing to not have drugs or alcohol clouding up your mind,” explains Jamie Rossi, the Director of Training at BDR. “When you go out on a day like today, and have fun and enjoy the holidays. Everybody’s not drinking and people aren’t using drugs – they see that ‘Hey, we can have fun. We can enjoy life. This is what life really is.’”

That is exactly what the entire program at Best Drug Rehabilitation is all about – helping our patients to discover their path to a happier, healthier, more positive way of life. Our patients are able to form healthy and functioning relationships, and learn how to repair those bonds that may have been damaged or broken as a result of their substance abuse. They find the ability to build a better life for themselves and their loved ones, and to work towards a brighter and more promising tomorrow.
