Mental Health & Addiction Treatment | Co–Occurring Disorders & Dual Diagnosis

24/7 Helpline 888-242-7730

Mental health issues and substance use disorders have a deep connection in the human brain. According to the National Institute of Mental Health in 2017, nearly one in five adults in the United States was living with some form of mental illness. This breaks down to 46.6 million Americans who struggle with a mental health issue.

In the field of addiction treatment, when someone has a substance use disorder, coupled with another form of mental health issue, we call this a co-occurring disorder or a dual diagnosis. Sometimes addiction treatment alone is not enough. We have helped many people in the Houston, Texas area by identifying a co-occurring mental health issue that was adding to their substance abuse problem.

Today I talk about what a psychiatric ward looks like. I spent a few years working at one and wanted to share with you what it is like. Remember that even though they can be a bit scary and overwhelming, the important thing is that they keep us safe. Psychiatric hospitals, are also known as mental hospitals and psychiatric wards (“psych” wards) when they are a sub-unit of a regular hospital, are hospitals or wards specializing in the treatment of serious mental disorders, such as clinical depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Psychiatric hospitals vary widely in their size and grading. Some hospitals may specialize only in short-term or outpatient therapy for low-risk patients. Others may specialize in the temporary or permanent care of residents who, as a result of a psychological disorder, require routine assistance, treatment, or a specialized and controlled environment. Patients are often admitted on a voluntary basis, but people whom psychiatrists believe may pose a significant danger to themselves or others may be subject to involuntary commitment.Modern psychiatric hospitals evolved from, and eventually replaced the older lunatic asylums. The treatment of inmates in early lunatic asylums was sometimes brutal and focused on containment and restraint. With successive waves of reform, and the introduction of effective evidence-based treatments, modern psychiatric hospitals provide a primary emphasis on treatment, and attempt where possible to help patients control their own lives in the outside world, with the use of a combination of psychiatric drugs and psychotherapy.A crisis stabilization unit is in effect an emergency room for psychiatry, frequently dealing with suicidal, violent, or otherwise critical individuals. Open units are psychiatric units that are not as secure as crisis stabilization units. Another type of psychiatric hospital is medium term, which provides care lasting several weeks. In the United Kingdom, both crisis admissions and medium term care is usually provided on acute admissions wards. Juvenile or adolescent wards are sections of psychiatric hospitals or psychiatric wards set aside for children and/or adolescents with mental illness. Long-term care facilities have the goal of treatment and rehabilitation back into society within a short time-frame (two or three years). Another institution for the mentally ill is a community-based halfway house.

Low back pain treatments can help get you back to your regular schedule. We can Help with back pain. Upper Back Pain, Lower Back Pain.

The thoracic spine can generate painful sensations from many conditions, although most upper back pain is due to muscle irritation.

Most treatment programs for spine conditions in the upper back include conservative (nonsurgical) care and may involve chiropractic adjustmentsThe cervical spine, or neck, is perhaps the most delicate part of the spine, charged with housing the spinal cord, supporting the head, and regulating blood flow to the brain. The neck can easily become a source of pain due to muscle strain or other more serious injury, including whiplash. Many types of neck pain can be alleviated with time and a conservative (nonsurgical) treatment regimen, including chiropractic care with cervical manipulation.

Call us! I have helped many Pinellas Park residents, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and surrounding communities active individuals when they are trying to get into shape. We can help you.

We are dependable, accurate, professional, and work hard at being efficient. If you need to have a consistent, dependable, honest chiropractor to refer your clients to, please consider me, Dr. Strubbe. In most personal injury cases involving back and neck pain, the pain will be caused by damage to the soft tissues around the spinal column (muscles and tendons), and not due to herniated discs or fractured vertebrae. These soft tissue cases will be the ones most likely to involve a chiropractor, as medical doctors will most often only be able to treat them with anti-inflammatory and narcotic pain medications. Because long-term use of narcotic pain medication has too many downsides to list, many people seek alternative treatments — such as chiropractic care. My shoulder is sore from a car crash. Residential Mental Health Treatment

24/7 Helpline 888-242-7730

Inpatient treatment, also referred to as residential mental health treatment, takes place in a residential facility on a 24/7 basis.

This level of care is best suited for those who need constant medical supervision as well as those with relatively severe, long-term symptoms who have not shown significant progress after outpatient mental health intervention.
