Drug use in the community is on the rise and the methadone clinic is seen as one possible way of curtailing use.
WESTWOOD, Ohio (WKRC) – A substance abuse treatment center is planning to open up shop in Westwood.
But the idea of the clinic isn’t exactly sitting well with people who live and work in the area.
There isn’t much left at the Glenway Crossing Shopping Center.
Earlier on Wednesday, TQL was packing up and leaving the area.
On the window of this store front it says who is moving into the neighborhood: Pinnacle Treatment Centers.
Local 12’s Brad Underwood spoke with the local spokesperson for the New Jersey based company.
She said that this location will become an outpatient facility for people suffering from addiction.
Services will range from medical assistance, one on one and group counseling, help for pregnant woman as well as prescribing drugs like methadone, Saboxen and vivitral. All drugs designed to kick addiction.
While there are strong views about facility’s like this on both sides, one of the big issues people are sharing is that didn’t know it was a possibility until it was a done deal.4
“It’s disappointing. One, if it’s just another part of this problem we’re having on the West Side, where a lot of treatment facilities are opening up, taking a bandage of the current epidemic, has a lot of issues related to the West Side, but also I pretty much predict the faint of a retail shopping center, I mean it already is in trouble having tenants, I can’t imagine that this type of facility is going to help attract other normal retailers to open,” said Pete Witte, a West Side activist
The development of the center is not 100 percent approved. A spokesman says that they’ve gotten permits approved locally, but are still waiting on state licenses. The goal is to be open October 1 in Westwood.
Pinnacle Treatment Centers currently operates a similar facility in Columbus and in convincing, Kentucky. Video Rating: / 5

The very first step in maintaining patient’s rehab is detoxification. The process of detoxification allows the body to withdraw a drug. The process can be painful, because of the withdrawal symptoms, thus it must be carefully managed by the doctors. As detoxification is not a treatment without any follow-up, we accompany it with behavioral therapy, and with individual medication and counseling. As the best Las Vegas detox clinic, we use the latest medical treatment protocols and create the supportive atmosphere for the successful recovery.
Getting rid of the drug in your body is not enough for the successful rehabilitation. We treat our patients with dignity and respect because we aim at helping them regain quality of life without drugs and alcohol. With the help of our treatment methods, our alumni are independent and productive individuals that are ready for reintegration into society.

Jo Harvey Weatherford develops and implements drug and alcohol prevention programs on the campus of The University of Nevada. In this candid talk she discusses the importance of the stories we tell ourselves about our behavior, and how she rewrote her own story of addiction to alcohol.
Jo has a deep-rooted passion for identifying alternative approaches to healing from trauma and addiction. While her own struggle with substance abuse was certainly the catalyst to identifying non-traditional approaches to treatment, it was her personal experience of healing which truly cultivated the desire to assist others on their journey to wellness.
As the Program Specialist for the University of Nevada Reno, Jo’s primary role is to develop and implement drug and alcohol prevention programs on campus. In addition, she has taught an Overview of Addiction course for the past several years for the Center for the Application of Substance Abuse Technologies. Jo is currently pursuing her PhD in Educational Leadership and has her MS in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Addiction Treatment and Prevention Services.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
