IN THIS EPISODE…

If you struggle with addiction of any kind (whether it’s to a substance like drugs and alcohol or to a behavior like sex or eating), there are some useful DBT skills you can apply when a craving strikes.

Here’s what works for me…

1) Agree to be uncomfortable.
2) Distract from the craving by crowding out the thoughts.
3) Willing hands & half smile.
4) Remind myself of why I’m working towards avoiding the craving
5) If I must engage in the behavior, do it slowly, and mindfully.
6) Repeat until new habit is formed.
